Marilyn
Matherly paints the stunning scenery of the Inland Northwest.
As she looks over this varied panorama she is reminded of the
fabrics enclosed in her grandmother’s rag bags years ago.
In her
mind’s eye she can see the wondrous colors, shapes, and
textures spread across the floor, and still see herself as a
child, creating endless vistas of hills, mountains, roads and
rivers from those scraps.
As she
looks now at the breathtaking scope of the lakes and forests
and the stunning patterns of the Palouse in all seasons, the
old rag bags become magic treasure houses of wools, corduroys,
velvets and satins, old lace and brilliant cording, an silken
threads. From those old memories her paintings spring forth
new and fresh each hinting of those special places in our hearts which hold the treasured things like quilts and old
toys that help us to recall the simple things which formed our
past.
