My formal art training was in the Graphic Arts program at Spokane Falls Community College. The program included all mediums, including wood & paper sculpture, lost wax casting, figure drawing, silk-screening, illustration, acrylics, water-colors, color and composition.  In addition, the Art History instructor offered a three week art tour of museums and galleries in Italy, France and England.   I was able to go on that trip and have drawn on those experiences throughout my art career.

I started making jewelry about seven years ago. I took a Jewelry Fabrication class at the Spokane Art School and was fascinated with the process of silversmithing.  However, the expense of the tools (hydraulic presses, drill presses, acetylene tanks, etc.) plus the room needed to use these tools became an issue and I had to abandon the idea of silver-making at that point.  Then I became aware of PMC, Precious Metal Clay.  Sculpting has always been of interest to me and when I started working in PMC, I loved it.  I have become a certified instructor and have been teaching PMC in Spokane and Moses Lake for the past five years, combining enamels, resins, and experimenting with different metals while designing in PMC.

Recently I started fusing glass and painting on glass which are two different techniques but may be utilized together. In 2010 I traveled to Everett to take a glass class using a very old (1500AD) technique of painting on stained glass from Stan Price, a nationally known glass artist and retired instructor at the Pilchuck Glass Institute here in Washington, and now use that technique with my fused glass.

I am a native Washingtonian so am very much inspired by the beautiful landscapes of my own state. Moses Lake was my home and the so-called scablands, the Columbia River and Gorge, the fascinating story of the Montana Flood and how it affected the entire Columbia Basin influences my work.

I have had exhibitions at the Manito Country Club, the Hayden Lake Country Club, Artfest at the MAC, Art on the Green in Coeur d’Alene, Yuletide at the Spokane Art School and currently have my work at Avenue West Gallery in Spokane and Fenton/Stahl Gallery in Walla Walla.
